‘Permission to Belong’ by Tammy Law

Tammy Law’s artist book, ‘Permission To Belong,’ is the winner of the 2018 Australia & New Zealand Photobook Award People’s Choice prize. The book received 57 of the 268 votes submitted by visitors to the exhibition over the last eight months. Its creation involved years of research with the Koren community, input from local and international mentors, and each of the 95 copies takes a painstaking six hours to print and bind. Congrats Tammy!

Brisbane-based artist Tammy Law has won the 2018 Australia & New Zealand Photobook Award – People’s Choice prize of $500 cash and $1,500 Momento Pro print credit. Her book, Permission To Belong, attracted 57 of the 268 People’s Choice votes collected over the last eight months as the Award exhibition travelled through Australia and New Zealand. This recognition is in addition to the book’s shortlisting in the 2018 Singapore International Photo Festival, and selection for exhibition at Photo Bangkok 2018, and in  Photobook As Object during Photobook New Zealand in March 2018.

Premium print promotions: Lumina Collective

The Australian ‘Lumina Collective’ created a series of saddle-stitched portfolios to distribute their images to agencies, editors, galleries and fans. Here they share the story of their collaboration and creation of photo book publications.

A group of talented Australian female photo artists, Lumina Collective, produced a series of booklets they could send to agencies, picture editors, galleries and fans, and below they share the story of their collaboration, and creation of various publications.

Because albums should be for forever

This blog post is inspired by two facts: 1. Print is the only photo format guaranteed to be accessible in generations to come, and; 2. People buy what they see. Read on to learn how easy it can be to sell albums to your wedding and portrait clients, and what the best samples to present to them are.

Any printed product will be accessible for longer than any digital file, and it’s important to educate your clients on this fact, so they can keep their personal photos ‘forever’ too. Maybe you’ll have a file in 50 years, but will you have the medium to read and display it? By advising them of the permanence of print you are helping them, and your album sales.

Geiko & Maiko of Kyoto by West Australian photographer Robert van Koesveld won the Australian Institute of Professional Photography’s APPA Photography Book Award 2015, and entries are now open again for the 2016 Awards but only until 11 August.

This photo book presents a series of portraits of geisha in a stunning design that incorporates patterns lifted directly from their exquisite costumes, along with complementary images and information about the cultural rituals and service network that allows the art form to live on.
